CPO® Voice

Organizing veteran, Judy Stern, shares her point of view about seeking accreditation. Last year, Judy moved her successful organizing practice from New York and established a new business in Northern California.

"I'm thinking of taking the CPO® examination next year. I never thought I'd be saying that, but when I see the letters after everyone's name, I want them after my name. Also, I like the idea of getting my brain to work in this way, learning/relearning about the field I love. I knew I couldn't even think about it before now - with the move and all - but I'm thinking. I'm taking the workshop at conference that discusses this, so we'll see."

News and Announcements

Welcome to the first issue of BCPO News! Organizers have asked for news updates from BCPO with regard to our ongoing Certification for Professional Organizers. I am pleased to introduce our Editor Karen Sencich, Professional Organizer, speaker, writer and owner of Havoc to Harmony. Karen brings a wealth of talent and energy to BCPO and we are delighted to have her at the helm of this publication.

On April 25th, 2007 almost 250 Professional Organizers gathered in one room to sit for the inaugural BCPO Examination for Certified Professional Organizers.

In keeping with testing industry standards, all future CPO® examinations will be held at computer-based testing (CBT) locations throughout the world. We are pleased to announce that you will be able to register to sit for the examination between November 1-30, 2008. Additional examination windows will be announced as they become available.

There will be one last chance to experience a paper and pencil examination, along with your peers, during NAPO's 20th Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada, on Wednesday, April 9, 2008. The deadline to apply for the April examination is March 28th, 2008. Register today!

Breaking Education News!

Future issues of CPO® News will outline more details about the variety of venues available to obtain Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The BIG NEWS is that you will now receive credit for each half hour increment of coursework, as long as the course is at least one hour long.

In the past, 90 minute sessions only counted for 1 CEU. We listened when many of you had issues with this system. RETROACTIVELY and going forward, a 90 minute course will be worth 1.5 CEUs. Once you obtain your CPO® status, you will be able to enter CEUs in an online tracking system, a tool that will make it simple to document CEUs towards re-certification.

Please go to the BCPO website for all the answers regarding BCPO Certification, or call BCPO, Toll Free at 800/556-0484. Download an application today and join the ranks of the CPOs!

Are you frustrated that you have started a successful organizing practice and don't want to wait three years to become BCPO certified? Don't wait! If you have accumulated the required hours and continuing education in less than three years you may write the examination.
